iPhone 8 software reveals how it'll work without home button

A leaked video, found buried in code for Apple’s new iOS 11 software, appears to show how the upcoming iPhone 8 will work without a physical home button.

Developer Guilherme Rambo has discovered what appears to be a new plan to allow users to access app switching by swiping up on the iPhone 8’s screen.

At present, the app switcher can only be accessed by double-tapping on an iPhone’s home button.

It is widely agreed that Apple will be getting rid of the standard home button on the iPhone 8, marking a radical departure from the handset’s traditional design.

Rambo has also found that swiping left on the iPhone’s lock screen in iOS 11 reveals the control centre rather than the iPhone’s camera.

Such small tweaks give the clearest look yet at how Apple is working on changing the way the iPhone works to accommodate a major hardware change.

The iPhone 8 is set to launch in early September, with a vertical dual lens camera and 3D facial scanning smarts.
