Google releases Gmail Go for less powerful smartphones

Google has released a new version of its Gmail app for Android, designed to work with older and more affordable handsets.

Gmail Go is aimed at phones with less than 1GB of RAM, which often struggle to work with the fully fledged version of the app.

Google has promised that the pared back add–on will still come with the same features, including 15GB of free storage, spam filtering, multiple account support and filtered inboxes.

The launch comes after Google released similar versions of its YouTube, Gboard and Assistant apps for slower phones.

It’s likely to be a winner for those who want easy access to their Google email without having to splash out on an expensive, powerful smartphone.

Gmail Go is free and available to download now.
