OnePlus’s next smartphone could pack an iPhone X–style notch and offer wireless charging, according to a newly leaked prototype.
The OnePlus 6, which is not expected to launch until summer, has been snapped by tech watchers in China, causing a stir just as rival mobile makers are showing off their new wares at Mobile World Congress.
The notch suggests OnePlus is looking to squeeze a larger screen onto a device roughly the same size as last year’s critically acclaimed OnePlus 5T.
It could also house sensors to build on the 5T’s basic facial unlocking function, potentially allowing for facial scanning to be used for payments.
The glossy rear appears to be made from glass, which Apple uses to support the Qi wireless charging standard.
There’s also a dual lens camera and fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device, suggesting the OnePlus 6 will mark a significant step up from the 5T.
Having denied plans to drop the standard headphone slot from the OnePlus 5T, it’s likely the OnePlus 6 will also include a 3.5mm jack, a deal breaker in an age when Apple, Google and HTC are trying to force consumers to use wireless earphones.
