Sony is offering a free PlayStation 4 to anyone who pre–orders its new Xperia XZ2 or XZ2 Compact smartphones.

Those who already own a PlayStation 4 can opt instead for a PlayStation VR Starter Pack, while anyone buying a Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ1, XZ2 or XZ Premium will also receive a 12-month PlayStation Plus subscription.

Not up to speed with Sony's XZ 2 yet? Here's what you need to know.

The latter can be redeemed through the Xperia Lounge app and includes free monthly PlayStation games and online multiplayer gaming.

Pre–orders for the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact are open now, with both devices available via Three and Carphone Warehouse.

Contracts on Three start at £37 per month, plus £99 up front, on an Essential Plan with 1GB data, which does not include global roaming or personal hotspot allowance.

However, pay £46 a month, with a £79 upfront fee, and you’ll get 4GB data, Feel At Home roaming, hotspot allowance and Go Binge, which means you won’t eat into your data allowance when streaming music and movies.

Both the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact come with 4K HDR video recording and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, with the XZ2 also cramming in full HD super slow motion recording and Sony’s new Dynamic Vibration System, which it says ‘brings your content to life’.

Both devices go on general sale on 6th April.
