Spotify will use a special event on 24th April to unveil a major overhaul of its smartphone app.
The streaming service has sent out invites to media for an event at New York’s Gramercy Theatre, where it says attendees will, “...hear about what’s next for our mobile app.”
A report last week claimed that Spotify was looking to make major changes to the free version of its app, offering users of its ad–supported platform the chance to access more tracks and previously restricted playlists.
It has also been trialling its own voice control tool, which it could roll out to more users next week. That would put it in direct competition with the likes of Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.
The changes come as the battle for streaming supremacy hots up. Apple Music continues to grow apace, but with Spotify having floated on the stock market, the onus is on the Swedish company to bolster its mobile offering in order to stay number one.
