Smarty, the new SIM-only mobile network, now offers roaming and international calling. The prepaid options for using your phone abroad hope to avoid post-holiday bill shock.
If you’re travelling within the EU, you’ll be able to use your plan as normal. So you won’t be charged any extra for calling, texting or accessing the internet.
If you’re travelling outside the EU, it’ll work on a pay-as-you-go basis. In other words, you’ll need to add a top-up. You only pay for what you use, and any money leftover will go towards the next month’s plan.
The service’s international call offering is now live too, letting you call friends and family abroad from the UK. Again, this works on a pay-as-you-go basis.
Smarty is an MVNO, much like giffgaff or Tesco Mobile. It uses Three’s network, and offers three simple monthly plans with no contract. The Small plan costs £7.50 a month for 2GB of data, the Medium gives you 4GB for £10 and Large offers 8GB for £15. Unlimited calls and texts come as standard.
