iOS 12 is now available for iPhones and iPads around the world. To see if it’s available for your device, head to Settings and select General, then hit Software update. You'll then be able to see the option to update.
It’s compatible with most of Apple’s mobile army. It’s available on iPhones as far back as the 5S, the iPad Pro, 2018 iPad, fifth-generation iPad, iPad Air and iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 2, 3 and 4 and the sixth-generation iPod Touch. But devices older than these won't be supported.
The software already comes as standard on the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.
iOS 12’s focus is on speed. It should make your device feel much faster, especially older devices that start to slow down as they age.
Of course, there are plenty of new features too. Screen Time is one of the new breed of digital wellness features that aim to wean us off our smartphones. It lets you know how long you’ve been using it and which apps take up most of your time, so you can – hopefully – put the phone down and go outside.
Notifications are now grouped together by app, making them easier to manage or mute, while Animoji and Memoji make messaging more fun.
