iOS 12 is now installed on just over 46% of Apple iPhones and iPads, with the recently released software update set to overtake last year’s iOS 11.
Latest figures from market research firm Mixpanel show that iOS 12 has been loaded up on 46.25% of compatible devices, with iOS 11 sitting just ahead on 46.57%.
Despite an apparently sluggish start, iOS 12 is now being installed at a faster rate than iOS 11 was at the same point last year. The latter was on 38.5% of iPhones and iPads in early October 2017.
It’s believed iOS 12’s stable release and ability to speed up handsets as old as the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6 is behind the surge adoption.
Apple opted not to offer a major overhaul of iOS’s design this year, instead focusing on back end improvements in the wake of the outrage around the news it was slowing down older models with ageing batteries.
The California company has yet to reveal official adoption figures, with Mixpanel’s stats tending to paint an optimistic picture.
