Xiaomi, the world’s fourth biggest largest company, has finally come to the UK, bringing along its offering of phones and smart-home gadgets.
And with its reputation for combining the very latest tech with surprisingly reasonable prices, the Chinese tech giants will doubtless attract a lot of attention from consumers who are looking for a less pricey alternative to a certain iWatering £1,000 flagship.
Xiaomi used its UK launch to announce the global release of the Mi 8 Pro, a premium device that comes with impressive camera smarts, an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a rather attractive translucent design.
But despite the high-end specs, the Mi 8 Pro comes in at just under £500. Which makes it half the price of Apple’s iPhone XS.
The Mi 8 Pro is available SIM-free from today at John Lewis, Argos and Carphone Warehouse.
It also announced its latest fitness tracker, the Xiaomi Band 3, which will come in at an introductory offer of just £19.99.
The Band 3 will also be available as part of the SmartLiving bundle that comes with Xiaomi’s popular entry-level smartphone, the RedMi 6 for a total cost of £99.99. Which is pretty great value by anyone’s standards.
Xiaomi is also bringing dozens of smart home products and an electric scooter.
And rather than just dipping its toe in the water with a couple of third-party companies, Xiaomi is launching a UK website and opening a store in Westfield shopping centre.
