Apple appears to be killing off Music Connect, its artists–only social feature that formed a core part of Apple Music when the streaming service launched in 2015.
In an email to artists, Apple revealed that it was ending the artists’ ability to post to Music Connect and stripping out such posts from the For You and Artists Pages sections of Apple Music.
Apple added, “This means you’ll no longer be able to post to Connect as of December 13, 2018, but all previously uploaded content will still be searchable until May 24, 2019. You can still create Artist Playlists with the latest version of Apple Music.”
Apple also revealed that it had tweaked Artists Pages and created new, personalised Artist Radio.
It appears that Music Connect will be discontinued in 2019, following in the footsteps of iTunes Ping, Apple’s short-lived move into social media which failed to catch on.
Apple Music has enjoyed huge success since its launch, giving Spotify healthy competition while seeing off services from the likes of Amazon and Google.
