Apple Music now works on Amazon’s Echo speakers. But the ability to play back tunes via Apple’s streaming service is currently limited to the United States.
Users in the U.S. can now link Apple Music to their Alexa app and make the platform their default setting for playing their favourite albums, playlists and artist radio stations.
You can even set an alarm using tracks from Apple Music, functionality lacking from Apple’s own impressive, but far pricier HomePod speaker.
The ability to play back Apple Music isn’t confined to Alexa’s iOS app, either. Android owners with an Apple Music subscription can also join the party, with the California company looking to further broaden the appeal of its Spotify rival.
"We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music – one of the most popular music services in the US – to Echo customers this holiday," said Dave Limp, senior vice president, Amazon Devices.
The only downside remains the feature’s U.S. only status. Neither Apple or Amazon has said if or when this new Alexa skill will roll out worldwide. An early 2019 launch seems a likely option.
