The Chorley & District Building Society was formed in 1859 and is the oldest society in Lancashire. Chorley & District BS was originally known as the Chorley Permanent Benefit Building Society. It was established to help mill workers save money and buy their homes. In the early days, the society members only met once per month, but Chorley & District Building Society has grown since then and is now a successful society serving the local people.
