About Furness Building Society

Known as the ‘Furness’, Furness Building Society has been in existence since 1865. It was formed to help the people living and working in what is now the South Cumbria and Furness Peninsula buy their own homes and have a safe place to save their money. The building society has grown since then and is now the 17th largest society in the UK. It is still an independent mutual building society run for the benefit of its members as opposed to shareholders.

Furness Building Society was voted the best regional building society for two consecutive years.

The society has more than a dozen branches and agencies in the North West of England, but its head office is in Barrow in Furness.

The Furness Building Society offers lots of different products and services. Customers can open savings accounts, buy insurance, take out a mortgage, make funeral plans, and take advantage of financial advice from experienced advisors. The society offers a range of fixed rate, discount, buy to let and self-build Furness BS mortgages for first time buyers and existing home owners.

Fixed rate Furness BS mortgages can be fixed for two to five years. Discount mortgages can be discounted for up to two years.

Buy to let Furness BS mortgages are available for landlords and property investors.

Self-build mortgages are suitable for customers building their own home. These mortgages are only available for buyers living in the North East of England.

Existing customers can switch to a new mortgage deal within three months of the end of their current Furness BS mortgage deal. Existing customers have exclusive access to special fixed rate, discounted rate and buy to let mortgages from Furness Building Society.
