YOUR HOME MAY BE REPOSSESSED IF YOU DO NOT KEEP UP REPAYMENTS ON YOUR MORTGAGE
Holmesdale Building Society was formed in Reigate, Surrey, in 1855. It was created by Thomas Buckland, who saw a need for a local building society that was able to offer savings facilities and mortgages on favourable terms for working people in the local community. Funds were raised from paid subscriptions and mortgage applications were decided by ballot amongst the members.
The founding members of the Holmesdale Building Society intended to wind things up after a few years, but thanks to the its success and continuing demand, it was decided to allow the society to continue operating indefinitely. The Buckland family continued to be a significant part of the society they founded until 2002, upon which time David Buckland, the last remaining family member, passed away.
Today the Holmesdale Building Society is still a big part of the local community and continues to serve its members in Surrey, but its field of activities has been expanded and the society now has members all over the UK.
