The Ashes explained...

The 2013 Ashes series sees Australia arrive in England looking to claim the Ashes on English soil for the first time since 2001. With talismanic captain Ricky Point announcing his retirement in 2011, the responsibility of leading Australia to victory will be on the shoulders of Michael Clarke.

He will have a huge task rejuvenating his troops after they suffered a 4-0 series whitewash against India, though England’s poor form in their series draw with New Zealand will have provided plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

The dates for the 2013 Ashes series are as follows:

1st Test: 10-14 July - Trent Bridge 2nd Test: 18-22 July - Lord’s 3rd Test: 1-5 Aug - Old Trafford 4th Test: 9-13 Aug - Emirates Durham ICG 5th Test: 21-25 Aug - The Kia Oval

With Australia hosting the 2015 World Cup, the Ashes series planned for that year has been moved to 2013 – 2014. That means that cricket fans will be able to take in two Ashes series within 6 months. And to add further spice to the contest, it also means that the team that loses this summer will be able to extact a quick revenge when the two sides meet again.

The dates for the 2013 – 2014 Ashes series are as follows:

1st Test: 21-25 November – Brisbane 2nd Test: 5-9 December – Adelaide 3rd Test: 13-17 December – Perth 4th Test: 26-30 December – Melbourne 5th Test: 3-7 January - Sydney
