YouView will soon be available through Beamly’s second screen social TV app.
Beamly started life as Zeebox, and was recently rebranded. Its second screen app lets you follow TV shows, join in online conversations, and have news related to the show relayed to your phone or tablet.
It’s like Twitter, but with everything that’s not related to the TV show filtered out.
At the moment, Beamly only works with Sky and Virgin Media. This will be the first time Beamly has worked with a subscription-free TV platform.
There’s no word on exactly when YouView will come to Beamly. There’s also no news on how support for BT TV and TalkTalk TV channels will be integrated.
Beamly is currently available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 8. It’ll also come to Xbox One soon.
It might have some stiff competition, however. In the US, Facebook recently unveiled plans for a feature that ‘listens’ to music and TV shows you enjoy while using the service. This would let you share your tastes with friends.
Shazam currently lets users tag TV shows and songs and share them through Twitter.
Many have said the second screen will be the future of how we watch TV, so expect to see plenty more of these kinds of apps.
