Sky Atlantic has commissioned a crime drama about a jewel heist, featuring an all-star cast.

'The Last Panthers' follows the pursuit of stolen diamonds after a heist. It stars Samantha Morton ('John Carter', 'Enduring Love', 'Cosmopolis'), John Hurt ('Alien', 'V For Vendetta', 'Hellboy', 'Doctor Who'), and Tahar Rahim ('A Prophet', 'Samba', Our Children').

It's thought to be based on the infamous jewel thieves known as the Pink Panthers.

Morton plays a determined loss adjustor, Hurt her disreputable boss, while Rahim is a French-Algerian policeman pursuing the case.

"As Sky continues to invest in more original programming, 'The Last Panthers' is the perfect series to add to Sky Atlantic's exciting drama slate," Zal Bennett, director of Sky Atlantic, said in a statement.

"It has all the ingredients to ensure our customers will love it and it will flourish on the channel – on and off-screen world-class talent combined with a gripping and thought-provoking story.

"We're delighted that the support of Sky Deutschland means that 'The Last Panthers' will also air on Sky Atlantic in Germany."

The series is a co-production between Sky Atlantic and Canal+. It will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK, Ireland and Germany next year.
