Sky's new crime thriller 'Fortitude' will be the first series to debut across all its European territories at the same time.

On January 29th, the first episode of the 12-parter will air on Sky Atlantic HD in Britain, Germany, Italy, Ireland and Austria, as well as on US channel Pivot, which part-funded the production.

Sky recently completed the takeover of Sky Deutschland and Sky Italia.

The series is set in an isolated arctic community which is torn apart when someone is murdered. It boasts an all-star cast of Michael Gambon, Stanley Tucci, Sofie Grabol and Christopher Eccleston.

The show will air exclusively on Sky Atlantic HD, and has been picked up by 13 international broadcasters. Sky hailed it as a sign of things to come.

"Launching simultaneously to 20 million customers demonstrates Sky's increased reach across Europe, while record sales around the world mean an even bigger impact and greater returns," Stuart Murphy, Sky's director of entertainment, said.

"The fantastic reaction to 'Fortitude' highlights the growing opportunity for us to create even more high-quality drama for international audiences in the future."
