Sky has announced the launch date of new medical drama 'Critical'.

The show will debut on Sky1 on February 24th – that's two weeks tomorrow.

The 13-part series is written by 'Line of Duty''s Jed Mercurio, and reunites him with Lennie James, who plays trauma consultant Glen Boyle.

The show focusses on a hospital's trauma unit. Like the Kiefer Sutherland drama '24', it's told in real-time.

It also stars Kimberley Nixon ('Fresh Meat'), Catherine Walker ('Strike Back') and Claire Skinner ('Outnumbered').

Mercurio has previous when it comes to medical dramas. His CV includes 2006's 'Bodies' and 'Cardiac Arrest' for the BBC and he penned 'The Grimleys' and 'Invasion: Earth'.

He also knows his onions when it comes to all things medical: he studied at the University of Birmingham Medical School, graduating in 1991.
