'Gotham' is coming back to Channel 5 with a bang – a double-bill will air on Monday, March 16th at 9pm.

The series has been on mid-season hiatus since December. Channel 5 has shown 10 episodes so far.

'Gotham' is a prequel to Batman, and follows the early career of Detective James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) aka Commissioner Gordon in the Batman series. It also features the genesis of iconic Batman enemies like the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and Catwoman (Camren Bicondova).

We'll also see a character introduced who may be the Joker.

'Gotham' is still in its first series (they're up to episode 18 in the States). A second series has been commissioned.

Once the first series has finished airing, it will be available on Netflix globally. The streaming service snapped up the exclusive global rights, instead of negotiating country by country, as is the norm.

Netflix is thought to have paid around $2 million per episode for 'Gotham'. No doubt this figure was pushed up by the fact its arch rivals Amazon and Hulu were also in the running.
