The Amazon Fire TV Stick is now shipping. Amazon’s streaming stick went up for pre-order at the end of last month. And it seems it’s been flying off the shelves – according to Amazon, it’s the firm’s fastest-selling device in the UK. Though it didn’t disclose how many had been pre-ordered.
No doubt some of its success is due to Amazon’s early offer. Prime members ordering in the first week of it being on sale could snap up the device for just £7. Even at the full retail price of £35, it’s not exactly expensive.
“We expected Fire TV Stick to be popular, but the customer response has just blown us away,” said Jorrit Van der Meulen, vice president of Amazon devices, EU. “For just £35, Fire TV Stick delivers powerful performance and access to a vast selection of content, apps and games.
"The phenomenal demand has made Fire TV Stick our fastest-selling device ever in the UK in the first week after going on sale, and we think our customers are going to love it.”
Like Google Chromecast, Fire TV Stick is the size of a dongle. Plug it into your TV’s HDMI port and you can stream TV shows and films to the big screen.
Amazon recently added its X-Ray feature to the Fire TV set-top box and Fire TV Stick. This serves up trivia on what you’re watching, like filmographies and biographies of the cast and crew.
