amazon prime instant video

Amazon has updated its Prime Instant Video app for iOS devices. You can now stream films and TV shows in high definition and also stream over your data plan - previously, you could only watch over Wi-Fi.

Obviously you'll want to be careful about using too much data. Thankfully, Amazon has thought of this and given quality settings, so you'll know how good the picture quality will be and how much data it will use.

One hour of streaming in the Best setting will chomp through 5.8GB. Better is 1.8GB per hour and Good is 0.6GB. Forewarned is forearmed.

The update also lets you choose which quality you download, depending on how long you've got, how big the screen on your device is, how much free space it has and so on.

You can choose to only watch over Wi-Fi if you want to avoid incurring any possible extra costs.

Unfortunately, these features have, at the time of writing, only made it to the US version of the app. Let's hope Amazon brings the updated app to these shores soon.
