Hulu has announced an advert-free version of its TV and film streaming service.

The US-only service will charge $11.99 a month for the ad-free version. Its standard option including adverts costs $7.99 a month.

This takes the fight to Netflix, which also doesn't carry adverts. Earlier this week, Hulu took thousands of jettisoned films off Netflix's hands after a deal with Epix expired.

Your move, Netflix.

Many Hulu customers complained at having to sit through adverts despite shelling out a monthly fee to use the service.

"At Hulu, we pride ourselves on listening to our customers and giving them the best possible experience," said Mike Hopkins, CEO of Hulu.

"Many of our customers have asked us for a commercial-free option, and so today we are excited to introduce just that.

"Providing more choice for consumers is fundamental to the Hulu experience, in addition to an array of choices in content and devices, our customers can now choose to watch with or without commercials."
