Netflix is getting into filmmaking, and its first effort looks like a corker. Called 'Beasts of No Nation', it stars Idris Elba as a West African warlord, and Netflix has released the first trailer. Take a look.

It promises to be an unflinching look at the life of a child soldier, based on a novel by Nigerian-American author Uzodinma Iweala.

It's already garnered nominations from various film festivals, and looks like it could come up trumps come Oscar time. One Guardian review called it a "powerful and confidently made movie", but don't expect an easy watch.

It will air on Netflix and in cinemas in the US on October 16th.

Beasts of No Nation marks Netflix's first foray into films, and it looks like a promising start. Also coming up is 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend' and 'The Ridiculous Six' from Adam Sandler.

Netflix certainly doesn't lack ambition. The streaming service has pledged to be in every major country in the world by the end of 2016. Next month, it will arrive in Italy, Spain and Portugal.
