The greatest moments from the Star Wars series of films, a comedy one-off with David Walliams and Joanna Lumley, and a classic Hitchcock thriller all vie for your eyeballs on Christmas Eve.
Star Wars: Greatest Moments 8pm, Sky One The new film is in cinemas now, so what better excuse to count down some of the finest moments from the franchise? This show runs through the 20 greatest bits of a galaxy far, far away, as voted for by the public. Will Jar Jar Binks make the cut? Or the Ewoks? There's only one way to find out. Also features contributions from famous fans and some of the franchise's biggest stars.
Walliams and Friend 10:05pm, BBC One It's not a mistake, the 'friend' of the title is singular on purpose. It refers to Joanna Lumley, who – game for a laugh as ever – plays a randy Mary Berry, among other characters. Walliams takes on a range of roles, including a party guest who invented autocorrect, a passive-aggressive salon receptionist with a Nagasaki tan, Oscar Wilde, and a businessman who gives his daughter bedtime stories in bullet points like a presentation.
Dial M For Murder 11:30pm, BBC Two See in Christmas Day with a good old fashioned murder story. Alfred Hitchcock directs Ray Milland and Grace Kelly in this adaptation of Frederick Knott's play. When Milland discovers his wife (Kelly) is having an affair, he plots to bump her off and walk away with a lot of money. Hitch only took the project on to fulfil his Warners contract, and claims he could have phoned in his direction and the results would've been the same, but it's a gripping tale nonetheless. What else would you expect from the master of suspense?
