Start the day with an untaxing cartoon, move on to an animated comedy after lunch, and finish up with a Victorian detective mystery. All in a day's work.
Thomas and Friends 9:35am, Channel 5 This feature-length episode has everything Thomas fans could want: pirates, hidden treasure, ghosts, not to mention some big-name actors providing their vocal talents. Eddie Redmayne plays Ryan,a new tank engine in charge of Thomas' branch line when Thomas is otherwise disposed. Olivia Colman plays eccentric railway digger Marion, while none other than John Hurt plays mysterious and not completely trustworthy Sailor John. Great family fun.
Wreck-It Ralph 4:30pm, BBC OneWhat if the characters inside classic arcade machines came to life? That's the premise of this loveable animated comedy, starring John C Reilly in the title role. Ralph is the baddy in an 80s arcade game called 'Fix-It Felix Jr', but despite his destructive tendencies, he's actually a big softie. Unsurprisingly, he gets to play the hero, but does in a way that still proves entertaining, for both gamers and non-gamers alike. Though there are plenty of in-jokes only gamers will get.
Sherlock 9pm, BBC OneIt's been two years since 'Sherlock' was on, but this special promises to be worth the wait. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman play Holmes and Watson in this special set in Victorian London. That's right, the pair are travelling back in time to take on the ghost of a vengeful bride. With London looking sumptuously Victorian, this should tide fans over until series four starts.
