ripper street

Amazon has axed historical crime drama 'Ripper Street', a couple of years after saving it from cancellation.

'Ripper Street' originally aired on the BBC, who called time on it after two series. But it earned a reprieve when Amazon stepped in and commissioned a third for its Amazon Prime Video streaming service.

Last May, Amazon commissioned a further two series. Now it appears that the fifth series is its last. Unless someone else appears and rescues it again.

The fifth series will air on Amazon Prime Video later this year. Filming has started in Dublin.

Amazon didn't give any reason for not renewing Ripper Street.

The show takes place in Whitechapel, London, in 1889. It follows a team of police headed up by Matthew Macfayden and Jerome Flynn investigating copycat Jack the Ripper-style murders.

Series four went live on Amazon Prime Video on January 15th of this year.
