TalkTalk customers can now access their account information over the phone just by speaking. There's no need to enter a password or confirm personal details, as the voice recognition tech will automatically know who's speaking.
The new system is called TalkSafe. TalkTalk is the first UK telecoms provider and first UK business outside the banking sector to introduce such technology.
It's hoped this kind of technology will help avoid data breaches like the recent hack that cost TalkTalk £60 million.
TalkSafe analyses more than 100 unique characters in the customer's voice, from the shape of their larynx, vocal tract and nasal passage, to their pronunciation, emphasis and how quickly they talk.
As well as increasing security, TalkTalk hopes the tech will mean customers have to spend less time on calls.
"We've listened to what our customers have told us about wanting a simple, secure service," said Tristia Harrison, TalkTalk's consumer managing director. "TalkSafe is an important and exciting step on that journey.
"As the first UK telecoms provider to roll out voice biometrics as standard, we're proud to be leading the way in making this advanced technology accessible to millions of homes across the country at no extra cost."
