Netflix has ordered a new series from the creator of hit prison comedy 'Orange is the New Black'.
'G.L.O.W.' is set in the world of the eponymous 1980s female wrestling league. (It stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.) Inspired by the real-life G.L.O.W. – set up as the female answer to the male-dominated World Wrestling Federation – it tells the story of an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.
Jenny Kohan (creator/executive producer on 'Orange is the New Black') and her co-producer on 'Orange' Tara Herrmann will executive produce, while Liz Flahive ('Homeland') and Carly Mensch ('Orange is the New Black') will serve as showrunners.
The real-life G.L.O.W. was a weekly show based in Las Vegas, which featured sketches and songs alongside the wrestling. It ran for four seasons.
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of 'G.L.O.W.'
