Amazon has commissioned a series based on espionage novelist Tom Clancy's character Jack Ryan.
Clancy was behind the books 'The Hunt for Red October', 'Patriot Games', 'Clear and Present Danger', and 'The Sum of all Fears', all of which were turned into films. He also leant his name to the 'Rainbow Six' series of video games.
Amazon has greenlit a 10-episode series, starring John Krasinski ('The Office', 'BoJack Horseman') as fictional CIA agent Jack Ryan.
The series will see Ryan intercept a terrorist communication while out on a field assignment.
It will be the first series to feature the Jack Ryan character. Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine have all played him in his big-screen incarnations.
Meanwhile, Amazon has also commissioned an as-yet untitled musical comedy from the creators of its hit show 'Transparent'. The show – from Jill Soloway and Ethan Kuperberg – will focus on a woman finding herself in Los Angeles.
There are no more details on the project as yet. But if it can come close to replicating the success of 'Transparent', Amazon will be very happy indeed.
