the departed

It's pilot season over at Amazon Prime Video right now – that means subscribers can watch a selection of shows and vote for which one gets its own series. But Amazon has another show up its sleeve, and this one is based on Martin Scorsese's mob film 'The Departed'.

The 2006 film was itself a remake of 'Infernal Affairs', but instead of Hong Kong, the action took place in Boston between the FBI and local Irish mob. The TV series will be set in Chicago, and will focus on warring drug gangs.

The plot will reportedly centre on a young cop who goes undercover inside a Latino gang, which in turn plants its own man inside the police department.

Jason Richman ('Detroit 1-8-7') will executive produce the show, while production houses Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment will produce.

The original film starred Leonard DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg and Martin Sheen. No casting has been announced for the series. But whoever steps in will have big shoes to fill.
