netflix android app

Back in May, Netflix unveiled fast.com, a website designed to test the speed of your internet connection. The idea was that you could see if your connection was fast enough to handle Netflix, though non-Netflix customers could also use it to test their speed. Now the service has launched an app that does the same thing.

The Fast mobile app will test your broadband connection from your smartphone using Wi-Fi. Or you can see how nippy your mobile data connection is, if you're thinking of streaming without Wi-Fi.

It'll be handy for anyone thinking of streaming on the go where there's no Wi-Fi hotspot. Or someone too lazy to reach for the laptop to launch their web browser.

Netflix requires a connection of at least 0.5Mbps to play its films and TV shows, and recommends at least 1.5Mbps. For HD, it recommends at least 5Mbps, and for Ultra HD (aka 4K) at least 25Mbps.

So how does your broadband stack up? Download the app from Google Play or the App Store now and find out.
