Netflix has created a scene from its hit paranormal series 'Stranger Things' in virtual reality. Don your headset – or just use a compatible web browser – and check it out below.
The clip lasts just under two minutes, and stars Winona Ryder.
Ryder plays the mother of a missing boy. 'Stranger Things' concerns the attempts of the small town to find said boy once he goes missing. But it soon becomes clear that there's a lot more to this case than a simple missing person.
In the clip, Ryder finds a way to communicate with her missing son using Christmas tree lights. Then it all goes pear-shaped.
'Stranger Things' has been described as a love letter to the paranormal films of the 1980s. The series is set in that decade, and recreates the feel very successfully, from the fashions down to the synth-heavy score.
Netflix has repeatedly flip-flopped over virtual reality. At the start of the year, it claimed it was "very interested" in VR, but then a couple of months later CEO Reed Hastings said it had nothing in the VR pipeline. Now comes this trailer.
Netflix has also previously created a VR 'storefront', which let viewers pick a film in a virtual reality environment. Though they could only watch it in the standard, non-360-degree way.
Who knows, maybe this clip is a sign of things to come...
