Amazon has signed a pilot starring Richard Madden from 'Game of Thrones'. Madden – who plays Robb Stark in the fantasy epic – will play the lead in 'Strange New Things', a sci-fi pilot.
The show is reportedly being considered for a 10-episode series.
Its name is uncannily similar to 'Stranger Things', Netflix's paranormal series set in the 80s. It too has a sci-fi bent, though that's where the similarities end.
Amazon's show is based on Michel Fabder's 2014 novel 'The Book of Strange New Things'. The story follows a devout priest named Peter who is sent to a strange distant planet, leaving his wife behind. While carrying out his work as a missionary for the local alien population, he starts receiving letters from his wife describing chaotic and devastating events back at home, which shakes his faith in God and his mission.
It's previously been described as "a heart-wrenching love story of a husband and wife with the universe between them".
The pilot will be directed by Kavin MacDonald and written by Matt Charman. Production should start by the end of the year, with a view to it airing next year.
