Sky has launched a mobile app for Sky Q. This lets you record, watch shows, see recommendations and more, all from your phone or tablet.
That means even if you're out of the house, you can still catch up on all your favourite telly. But what exactly can it do? Join us as we count down its skills.
1 Recordings on the go
The key 'sell' for the app is that it means you can watch programmes you've recorded on your Sky Q box on your phone or tablet while you're out and about. That's a major upgrade from the Sky Go app, which only let you stream live TV or on-demand programming.
The only thing is, you have to make sure you've downloaded them to your phone or tablet before you leave the house.
You don't need an internet connection to watch something you've recorded on your phone, which means you can watch even where you don't have signal. Hello 'Westworld' on the tube!
Got an iPhone? You can see which shows you've downloaded to your handset by opening the app and heading to On My iPhone or On My Phone.
Download the app for iPhone and iPad here: Sky Q app.
Android phone or tablet-owner? You can grab the app here: Sky Q app.
2 Stream live or on-demand programmes
But what if you're in too much of a rush to download shows before you leave the house? Simple, you can just watch live or on-demand instead.
You can watch pretty much anything, including sports, films and box sets, as long as they're shown live or available on-demand and you're subscribed to the relevant channels.
You'll need mobile coverage or a Wi-Fi network to do so though. If it's the former, watch your data allowance – no one needs a hefty mobile bill at the end of the month.
3 Remote record and download
But it's not all about watching. You can also set something to record, and manage your recordings and downloads from your phone.
So if a meeting overruns, just fire up the app and set your box to record. That way, you won't miss an episode of your favourite show. Though your boss might wonder why you're playing with your phone during the meeting.
4 My Q
When at home, you can find the series you're watching right from your phone using the My Q section. You can even jump back in mid-episode where you left off, and carry on watching. Your commute just got a lot more interesting.
You can also browse the Top Picks section from your phone – this includes the best of live TV and on-demand offerings. See something you like the look of? Select it and you can start watching right away.
5 It's available now
The app is out now for iPhone and Android, and it's completely free. You'll need to be a Sky Q customer in order to use it. Which shows you can watch depends on which Sky Q package you have.
You'll also need the Sky Q Multiscreen subscription if you want to access recordings using the app. Some programmes and recordings are unavailable to watch or download using the app.
The app works on all iPhones running iOS 8.1 and later, and all Android phones running Android 4.1 and later. Happy watching!
