google daydream view

Google's new virtual reality headset goes on sale next week. You can pre-order the device now from the Google Play Store, EE or Carphone Warehouse. It costs £69 and will ship on Thursday 10th November.

The Google Daydream View is the first headset to support Google's Daydream VR platform, which is built into its Android Nougat operating system. At the moment, you can only use it with the new Google Pixel or Pixel XL phones, but more compatible handsets should be announced soon.

So what can you watch on it? YouTube has a ton of virtual reality clips, and in the US, streaming service Hulu offers its entire library of films and TV shows on the Daydream platform, though the VR content is separate. But with the New York Times recently announcing it will release a new VR video every day, expect plenty more content on the way.

Google previously released Google Cardboard, a cheap, make-it-yourself 'shell' for your phone – strap it to your head and you could watch VR videos without buying pricey hardware. Daydream View is a much more serious piece of kit, made of soft cloth and foam (so it should be nice and comfortable) and coming with a plastic remote control.
