sky+ new features

Sky+ may no longer be on sale – now it's Sky Q or the high road – but Sky hasn't forgotten about customers with the box. In fact, it's breathed new life into it by giving it a bunch of new features previously only found in its Sky Q service.

The nights are drawing in, the temperature's plummeting. What better time to enhance your TV viewing?

1 Auto Play

sky+ tv guide update

This makes binge-watching a cinch. When you get to the end of an episode, the next one will automatically start, providing it's already downloaded to your Planner (to make sure it is, activate the Download Next feature).

Or if you're getting bored of the current episode but want to know what happens next, or your realise you've already seen this one, you can skip to the next episode by pressing the green button. Simple.

However, Auto Play isn't available on recordings of linear TV series.

2 It's automatically activated

You don't have to do a thing to ensure Auto Play is on – it's automatically enabled for all customers as soon as they receive the update. But if you'd rather turn it off, you can.

Head to Services, select Options and then Customise Menu. You can now turn it on or off for kids' or non-kids' shows. Might be a smart move – you don't need to make it any easier for the little 'uns to binge their way through 'Peppa Pig'.

3 Catch Up Series Link

sky+ tv guide update

If you're browsing the Catch Up section, and see something you fancy watching, you can now series link the whole thing right there and then, instead of having to search for it separately. This means it'll record every single episode, so you don't miss a minute.

To do so, just find said show in the Catch Up TV section, or find a Catch Up show that's been downloaded to the Planner, and press the green button. And that's it, Series Link is activated.

Now you can go about your day safe in the knowledge you'll soon have the entire series to hand, to watch at your leisure.

4 More legible font sizes

Finding it hard to read the menu options? You can now increase the font size on the Homepage and the Services Homepage. Just press Services, then select Accessibility and choose 'Large' to make the letters bigger.

Don't forget, you can tinker with the contrast and font size across the whole Sky Guide using the 'Increase Sky+ Contrast & Font Size' setting too. Put that magnifying glass away.

5 It's rolling out soon

Sky+HD Box

The update will reach UK Sky+ boxes "this autumn". Seeing as the ground is covered in leaves, we'd expect it any day now. So keep your eyes peeled!
