Sky Sports has partnered with sports promotion company Matchroom to show a weekend of basketball and netball live from The O2 in September.

Both sports will be played in new formats, aimed at making them more fast-paced and exciting (think Rugby 7s instead of the full 15-man teams).

On Saturday 23rd September, Sky will show the British Fast5s All-Stars Netball Championship. The following day is the British Basketball All-Stars competition.

The tourneys feature the top eight teams from the Vitality Superleague (for netball) and British Basketball League, respectively.

The netball games will feature multiple shot points, rolling substitutions and a double point power play to make them more exciting. The basketball games, meanwhile, will be shortened, with a double elimination format.

The prize for each tournament is £25,000.

"The popularity of basketball and netball is at an all-time high right now," said Barry Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sports. "We want to bring this right to the fore with a massive weekend at The O2. By combining the expertise of Matchroom and Sky Sports with those of England Netball, we know that we are embarking on something special."

Georgina Faulkner, head of Sky Sports multi-sport, added: "The creation of the British All-Star competitions provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the very best of British netball and basketball. Everyone involved will hope the tournaments can inspire a new generation to pick up a ball and encourage more women and men to get back on the court."
