philips freeview play

All of Philips' 4K smart TVs released this year will come with Freeview Play built-in, the firm has announced.

The new 6162 and 6262 smart tellies will be the first of Philips' sets to feature Freeview Play in the UK.

Freeview Play is a free service that combines catch-up and on-demand services with live TV. Viewers can watch 70 digital TV channels, plus 15 in HD.

It also brings an enhanced EPG (electronic programme guide) that lets you watch shows on catch-up from the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, Demand 5 and UKTV Play by just scrolling back through the TV guide as if going back in time. (A similar feature is available on YouView.)

You can check out more on-demand content from the Freeview Play apps page.

The Philips PUS6262/05 has Philips' Ambilight technology, which emits a glowing light from the sides of the set to make for a more immersive viewing experience. It comes in 43-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch sizes. The Philips PUS6162/05 doesn't have Ambilight, but comes in the same sizes.

Freeview Play is also available on a range of set-top boxes and TVs made by Panasonic, Humax, JVC, Finlux, HiSense and LG.
