The days of squabbling over what to watch are practically over, thanks to the rise of streaming services like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. The former is serving up plenty of Christmas goodies this year, including fast cars, historical drama and comedy. Get stuck in to this lot.

The Grand Tour series 2

The boys are back for another round of fast cars, fast chat and glamorous locations. The first episode features Richard Hammond's recent crash, which left him in hospital. Clarkson was also hospitalised while filming, thanks to a bout of pneumonia. So it'll be an eventful series, if nothing else. The first episode drops on Friday, with new instalments coming every Friday.

Outlander

outlander The time-travelling series has developed quite a following, especially since it found a UK home on Amazon Prime Video. Based on the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, it stars Caitriona Bale as Claire Randall, a WWII nurse who finds herself transported back to 18th century Scotland, where she meets dashing Highland warrior James Fraser (Sam Heughan). If it sounds a bit like 'Goodnight Sweetheart', that's because it is, but with a bigger budget. The finale of series three airs on Sunday, with all episodes available to watch whenever you like.

Lucifer

lucifer Adapted from the comic book series 'The Sandman', 'Lucifer' stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, aka the Devil, who's become fed up of being the Lord of Hell, and so has abandoned his kingdom to become a consultant with the LAPD. He also finds time to run a nightclub called Lux. Series three is currently airing.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

the marvelous mrs. maisel Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (who was behind 'Gilmore Girls' and its recent reboot), this series focuses on a 1950s housewife played by Rachel Brosnahan. After being cheated on and left by her struggling stand-up comedian husband, Miriam 'Midge' Maisel decides to have a crack at stand-up for herself, using her own life experience as grist for the mill. Series one became available at the end of November.

Vikings

vikings series four Another historical show with a huge following, this show is about Ragnar Lothbrok, a legendary Norse hero who rose from serfdom to nobility through successful raids into Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and Francia. Series five started on 29th November, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.

Elf

elf It's that time of year, and Amazon has it to watch on-demand. So settle in for plenty of festive cheer and plenty of laughs.
