William Gibson is one of the most influential science fiction authors of his generation. Now the writer of \\'Neuromancer\\' and \\'All Tomorrow\\'s Parties\\' is having an Amazon series made of his 2014 work \\'The Peripheral\\'.

It\\'ll be made by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who were also behind the recent HBO/Sky series \\'Westworld\\'.

According to reports, Amazon didn\\'t require a pilot, it just gave Nolan and Joy a script-to-series order.

The story is about Flynne Fisher, and is set in a near future version of America. When she stands in for her brother as security personnel in a virtual world, she witnesses a murder, and starts to think that maybe this \\'virtual\\' world is actually reality in disguise.

Amazon has got the sci-fi bug of late. As well as \\'The Peripheral\\', it has an adaptation of Iain M. Banks\\' Culture novel \\'Consider Phlebas\\' in the pipeline, and of course the epic \\'Lord of the Rings\\' TV series too.
