American Gods series two will air exclusively on Amazon Prime Video next year. And a new star has been announced.
Sakina Jaffrey will join the cast of the second series. She will play Mama-Ji, a Hindu goddess of war, who moonlights as a waitress at the Motel America. Armed with a necklace of skulls, acerbic wit and free spirit, she’ll doubtless be a match for any man. Or god.
You might recognise Jaffrey from her role of White House chief of staff in Netflix’s House of Cards. She’s also appeared in Amazon’s Mr Robot as Antara Nayar, and as Mindy’s mother Sonu in The Mindy Project.
American Gods is based on the Neil Gaiman novel of the same name. It stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, and Emily Browning as Shadow’s wife Laura.
It follows Shadow Moon after he’s released from prison, when he meets Mr. Wednesday and quickly becomes embroiled in a war between the old gods and the new.
Series one is available to watch now.
