game of thrones dragons vs wights

Game of Thrones will end next year, but broadcaster HBO isn't letting it go quietly into the night. It has five potential spinoff series in the works, and it's just ordered a pilot for one of them.

The series in question is a prequel set thousands of years before the blockbuster fantasy series. The as-yet-untitled series will be written by author of the source novels George RR Martin and Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman.

The series is said to "chronicle the world's descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour". It's expected to explore the construction of The Wall, the origins of the House of Lannister and the first coming of Azor Ahai.

According to HBO, "Only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros' history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend... it's not the story we think we know."

Of course, there's no guarantee it will commissioned to a full series. We'll have to see how the pilot works out first.
