Disney will give lesser-known Marvel superheroes their own series when it launches its own streaming service next year, according to source.
The plan is in the early stages, and will include Loki and the Scarlet Witch, among others. These characters are yet to have their own dedicated films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Disney wants to bring them to a wider audience.
The actors who played these characters on the silver screen – Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen, respectively – are expected to reprise their roles for the TV series.
The series are expected to have big budgets, and to comprise around six to eight episodes.
Disney hasn’t revealed too much about its streaming service. We do know it should cost less than Netflix and be available around the end of next year. Expect Marvel – which is owned by Disney – original series to disappear from Netflix before then to be housed on Disney’s own service.
Shows confirmed for Disney’s service include a Star Wars series, a show based on High School Musical and a live-action version of Lady and the Tramp.
