19th December 2005: TalkTalk buys Onetel and Tele2
TalkTalk today announced the purchase of Onetel and Tele2.
The purchase of Onetel will add around 1.5 million fixed-line, broadband and mobile customers to TalkTalk’s base, with the acquisition of Tele2 adding another 188,000 customers. TalkTalk’s customer base will now stand at 2.4 million, making it the largest fixed-line competitor to BT.
In time, Onetel and Tele2 will be rebranded as TalkTalk, with all existing Onetel and Tele2 customers given the benefit of TalkTalk’s free on-net calls as soon as possible.
New customers can currently still sign up to the Onetel service, but not the Tele2 service
