CORGI is being taken over as the UK's official gas safety body by the Gas Safe Register, with effect from April 01 2009.
After April 01, you should only allow boiler engineers to work on your heating systems if they have an official Gas Safe Register membership card. If your engineer still has a CORGI card after this date, they are not registered, and as a result will not be able to carry out gas work legally.
When checking your engineer's card from now on, look for the yellow Gas Safe Register triangle and not the orange CORGI registration badge.
It is essential that you check your engineer's credentials for a number of reasons. If they don't have proof of their membership to the Gas Safe Register, you could be taking a big risk, as badly maintained heating appliances can lead to gas leaks and even carbon monoxide poisoning.
The CORGI gas registration scheme ended on 31 March 2009, after a review of gas safety in 2006 led to the decision to change to a new gas registration scheme. All CORGI engineers should have transferred over to Gas Safe Register - make sure your engineer is now a Gas Safe registered engineer.
