3 adopts mobile broadband monitoring service
Posted 12th February 2010 at 11:17am by Ewan Taylor-Gibson
Broadband provider 3 has added Velocent's OneVu 3G Mobile Broadband network monitoring system to its platform.
OneVu is a new system that monitors the performance of every packet, of every context, for each mobile broadband subscriber, allowing ISPs to improve the end-to-end customer experience.
It is hoped the technology will enable 3 to quickly identify and respond to mobile broadband service problems.
Bruce Peterson, Velocent's founder and Chief Executive Officer, claimed that OneVu is "unique from any other monitoring system".
He added: "It actually utilises the behaviours of customer's own packets traversing through the network to measure peak throughput, mobile network congestion, and latency that affect customer experience."
Phil Sheppard, Director of Technical Solutions at 3, said the service would help the mobile broadband provider identify operational faults in its network that were otherwise undetectable.
It was recently reported that 3 had activated its 10,000th 3G site in the UK, as the ISP continues to improve connectivity levels.
