A new consumer product designed to improve the strength of mobile broadband connections has gone on sale in the UK.

Wireless networking manufacturer Deltenna has introduced its Wireless Broadband Enabler (WiBe) mobile broadband booster device to the UK market.

The purpose of the device is to improve signal quality, meaning it could help households in rural and remote areas to make the most of 3G networking opportunities.

According to ISPreview.co.uk, the WiBe device works by automatically identifying the mobile cell with the fastest available download speed. It then enables users to tap into this network.

News of the product originally broke in June, when Deltenna claimed it would be able to offer 2Mb broadband to consumers living in the countryside.

However, the initial pricing for the product could well affect take-up rates – it comes with a retail value of £425.
