HTC One smartphone launches

Commenting on the launch of the HTC One smartphone today, Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, says: “This is a solid offering that may well hold its own alongside the big players in the smartphone arena – exactly what HTC needs right now. But as for whether it’s a game changer, we’ll have to wait and see.

“There is no doubting that this is one good-looking smartphone. But when it comes to mobiles, if it looks like an Apple and it works like an Apple, it’s not necessarily an Apple – and the HTC One’s sleek glass and aluminium form looks rather familiar.

“But it boasts a bigger screen than the iPhone 5’s four inches – it’s almost identical in size to the Samsung Galaxy S3 – while Blink Feed’s tiled interface nods to Windows Phone 8.

“Buzzwords like ‘UltraPixel’ alone aren’t enough to sway mobile fans into parting with their cash. Question is, does it have any form or functions that sets it apart from the competition?

“The key is in the camera. It captures the action before you press the shutter button and promises better quality for low-light photos. This will certainly appeal to the snap happy.”
