Commenting on the new BIS proposals to streamline the process for businesses to appeal a decision by a regulator, such as Ofcom, Ernest Doku, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, says: “These new proposals are welcome and should help ensure that regulators are able to implement changes without long delays often caused by appeals. When it comes to decisions where consumers stand to benefit, it’s vital that changes are pushed through as quickly as possible. Regulators need to be able to regulate – quickly, efficiently and fairly. And they shouldn’t be held to ransom by businesses – especially when they are acting in the interest of the consumer.
“An extensive consultation period – where providers, consumers and key stakeholders are able to make their voices heard – should be enough to ensure that any decision made by the regulator is fair to all. Engaging fully in the consultation should help avoid costly and lengthy appeals – which can end up harming consumers the most.”
